How to order vertical photography

Vertical photography can be as simple as a single image (spot photo) or a complex series of flight lines covering huge areas. For the purpose of this tip, we will assume that complex projects will be done by experienced flight planners and these instructions will be for ordering a simple vertical image to cover a site.

For us to obtain a vertical image, we need to know where it is and how much area is to be covered. Both of these bits of information can be easily obtained from a known-scale base map or photograph. To minimize our flight planning time, plot your project boundaries on a USGS quad map or other geo-referenced map or photo. Let us know where this is (or the quad name) and we will be able to measure the size of your crop and set a center point in precise coordinates. On most sites, we will cushion your crop with a little extra coverage, just in case. If the project boundary is too large to fit in one frame of film, or would be better covered with multiple frames, we will help determine the best approach to cover the area.
